O.C.A.R.E. News 2018

December 28, 2018

Today we celebrate our first full year as owners of the Booneville/Seale Theater! This year we have been witness and participants to a lot of growth at the Booneville Entertainment Center as well. Awareness of our project grew tremendously. The BEC was able to collaborate with the Light up Booneville Committee and Daniel Boone Days Committee to provide celebration specific events at our facility for the community.  In turn, we were able to host guests from all of our neighboring counties!

Multiple groups from our county, as well as others, came to the BEC to watch plays or to see a free movie.  Serving our community and region (especially the youth) is the main goal of our project.  Positive activities are critical to helping our kids see a brighter future.  That is why the Booneville Theater Project began.  With support from the Owsley County Action Team, we have been able to proceed with the mission of Owsley County Alliance for Recreation and Entertainment, Inc.  Through grants like the Kentucky Arts Council Interim Grant, we were able to create and better support the efforts of our new acting group called the Booneville Theatre Company.  A group which performed three separate plays and grew from three actors to a total of 17 ranging in ages 9 - 70+

On December 31, 2018 we will be celebrating our third year at the Booneville Entertainment Center.  Members of the Owsley County Action Team graciously and generously have allowed us the use of the space in order to conduct sustainability research by doing movies and plays at the BEC.  It is through this research, that we were able to determine that there is a demand for performance arts in our area and that we continue to push forward on the Booneville Theater Project.

The grant from the Kentucky Arts Council enabled us to upgrade the Booneville Entertainment Center facility and make it more performance and public friendly.  We installed curtains, stage lights, signage, some sound equipment and sound proofing materials throughout the facility.  Since installing the curtains and lighting, our facility was also appropriate to use for the Annual Daniel Boone Days Miss Pioneer Pageant (which we hope to host again next year).

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, supports the Booneville Entertainment Center/Booneville Theater Project/Booneville Theatre Company with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
